Styled in a producer finish by the manufacturer, the Genelec 1032C SAM Studio Monitor is designed for high-powered, near-field monitoring in pro-audio scenarios such as music studios, mobile vans, surround sound systems, multimedia installations, and TV broadcast facilities. The speaker consists of a 10″ bass woofer, a 1″ metal dome tweeter, an active crossover, and a directivity control waveguide to balance the frequency spectrum.

The monitor can accept both analog and digital AES/EBU signals from separate XLR jacks, and automatically detect what kind of audio is being fed into the monitor. To coordinate multiple 1032Cs, you can use Genelec’s GLM software to tune your monitor to your room, daisy-chain monitors, override automatic signal-source selection, and more. Routing is accomplished by means of a few Cat5 cables and a GLM adapter, which are available separately. You’ll note that RJ45 ports are provided for GLM connectivity. An XLR output jack is on hand for sending identical copies of incoming AES/EBU signals to other monitors.

The 1032C provides a 10″ bass woofer amplified by 200W of short-term power, and can play down to 40 Hz. The 1″ metal dome tweeter can play up to 23 kHz, is amplified by 150W of short-term power, and utilizes the directivity control waveguide to achieve phase and delay uniformity. Both the woofer and tweeter are magnetically shielded. The monitor provides you with multiple controls to optimize system performance for your particular listening environment. These controls are enumerated in the features section.

Key Features

Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) Compatible
GLM, a proprietary software available free from Genelec, allows you to coordinate, equalize, and otherwise manage your 1032C to its fullest potential.

Analog or AES/EBU
The 1032C’s audio inputs are designed to integrate easily into all professional environments, supporting balanced, line-level analog and AES/EBU-format digital signal. Analog input is selected when the AES/EBU signal input is not connected. The AES/EBU format digital audio input is selected automatically when a valid digital audio signal is present. Automatic audio signal input selection can be overridden, however, when the 8341A is controlled by a GLM network, enabling flexible selection of either input. On the output side, an XLR connecter provides an unaltered copy of the incoming AES/EBU signal, enabling you to daisy chain up to four monitors.

Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW)
The 1032C has a proprietary directivity-control waveguide which shapes the emitted wavefront in a controlled manner, thus allowing you to tailor the dispersion pattern predictably. This DCW technology minimizes early reflections, providing a wide yet controlled listening area for accurate playback both on- and off-axis.

Smart Active Monitor (SAM)
SAM technology can improve the reliability and accuracy of these monitors by providing several parametric notch and shelving filters that can be tuned automatically in concert with the GLM software, compensating for colorations generated by room acoustics. This enables SAM monitors to sound neutral and achieve accurate imaging in most acoustic environments.

Bass Roll Off Control
Bass roll off control attenuates the monitor’s output near the low cut-off frequency. Attenuation levels of -2 , -4, or -6 dB (accomplished with both switches set to ON) can be selected.

Desktop 160 Hz
The desktop low-frequency control (switch 5) attenuates the bass frequencies around 160 Hz by 4 dB. This feature is designed to compensate for the boost often occurring at this frequency range when the monitor is placed upon a meter bridge, table, or similar reflective surface.

Bass Tilt Control
These switches offer three attenuation levels for the frequency response below 800 Hz. Attenuation is usually necessary when the monitors are placed near room boundaries. The attenuation levels are -2, -4, and -6 dB (both switches ON).

Treble Tilt Control
This allows you to adjust the treble response above 5 kHz by +2, -2, or -4 dB, which can be used for correcting an excessively bright or dull sounding system, or to compensate for high frequency level loss if the monitor is placed behind a screen. The -2 dB setting is selected by turning both switches ON.

Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS)
This switch activates or deactivates the ISS automatic power saving function. The default time for ISS activation is 60 minutes, but can be adjusted in GLM.

Digital
The Digital switch selects the digital audio channels on the AES/EBU. Turning both switches ON reproduces the sum of the A and B channels. 6 dB of attenuation is applied to avoid overloading the monitor. If the AES/EBU cable is operated in dual-wire mode, the monitor detects this automatically and the channel selection switches have no effect.

Level
The Level switches scale down the monitor output level in 10 dB steps. The effects of these switches add up and combine with the effect of the rotary level adjustment control. The combined total setting range is -42 dB.
